The Australian Government has announced the introduction of a new commissioned National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Support Coordination and Connection (SCC) service from 1 July 2028. This service will replace the way NDIS participants currently receive support coordination services. The SCC service reform seeks to improve quality and service consistency, encourage innovation, and be more responsive to participant needs.

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission has written to more than 285,000 unregistered NDIS providers across Australia, reminding them of their obligations under the NDIS Code of Conduct, and the significant penalties that apply for non-compliance.

Social Demographer Brian Cooper argues that reducing NDIS participation while constraining provider prices risks leaving people with funded plans but no accessible services. He warns that provider contraction could also reduce student placements and supervision, weakening the future disability workforce, and calls for geographic, workforce and education impact assessments.
